This 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 is a Westfalia Campmobile example that was first sold in California and is said to have remained registered in the state through the current owner's 2004 acquisition.
Work under current ownership has involved rebuilding the 1.
7L flat-four, adding a 123ignition electronic ignition system, repainting the body, replacing the pop-up roof tent canvas, and re-trimming the seats.
The bus features a mesh windshield visor, jalousie windows, power-adjustable side mirrors, driving lights, and a tow ball as well as a four-speed manual transaxle, dual Weber 40 IDF carburetors, and 14? steel wheels.
Camping equipment includes a folding rear bench, a sleeping loft, privacy curtains, a sink, and a shore-power connection port.
The accompanying single-wheel utility trailer was manufactured by Harris Mfg.
Co.
in 1950 and has been repainted to match the bus.
This Type 2 Westfalia is now offered on dealer consignment with a delivery-status certificate from Volkswagen Classic Parts as well as manufacturer's literature, service records, camping accessories, and clean California titles for the bus and trailer.
The body left the factory finished in Pastel White (L90D) and was repainted under current ownership in 2011.
Further paint repairs were performed in July 2016.
The bus is equipped with a front-hinged Westfalia pop-up roof tent as well as jalousie windows and a mesh windshield visor and window vents.
Driving lights, Vanagon-sourced side mirrors, VW-logo rear mud flaps, red bumper accents, a red clamshell-style exhaust tip, a tow ball, a side step, and a shore-power connection port are further details.
The front window channel seals were replaced in November 2022.
Steel 14? wheels are finished in red with body-color lips and wear VW-branded hubcaps.
185-series Continental Vanco 2 commercial tires are mounted at all four corners, and stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.
The forward cabin houses replacement bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl with yellow perforated inserts.
A switch to operate the power mirrors is mounted below the parking brake handle, and additional interior details include an Alpine CD stereo, a shift lever extension, and three-point seatbelts.
Damage to the dashboard is visible above the parking brake handle.
The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a 90-mph VDO speedometer, an analog clock, a fuel level gauge, and warning lights.
The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 37k miles, and true mileage is unknown.
A right-side sliding door opens to reveal the rear cabin, which is equipped with a vinyl-upholstered bench seat that folds into a bed.
Additional appointments include a sink, a rear-facing seat, fold-out tables, storage cabinets, privacy curtains, and power outlets as well as a pop-up tent with a bed platform and zip-open windows.
Jail bars are fitted in the rear cargo area.
The folding bench and rear-facing seat were reupholstered with yellow vinyl and the flooring was replaced in 2010, and the pop-up tent canvas was replaced in 2019.
The air-cooled 1.
7-liter flat-four is fed by dual Weber 40 IDF carburetors and was rebuilt by Speedwell USA of Mountain View, California, in April 2015.
Work involved replacing the main, rod, and cam bearings as well as the pistons, cylinders, hydraulic lifters, various gaskets, and the alternator.
A 123ignition electronic ignition was added, the valve covers were resealed, and the rear main seal, muffler, and fuel lines were replaced in 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
Additional underside images are viewable in the gallery.
The right rear output seal was replaced and the fluid was topped off in May 2022.
The delivery-status certificate from Volkswagen Classic Parts lists factory colors, equipment, and a build date of March 3, 1973.
The 1950 Harris trailer has been painted to match the bus and is fitted with a single 8? wheel wearing a 4.
00-8 Continental whitewall tire.
The trailer features taillights, a yellow California trailer plate, a wood-lined cargo bed, and a blue canvas cargo cover secured with velcro.
A front privacy curtain, a rear mosquito net, and a Westfalia tent are also included in the sale.
All inspections welcome.
